Holiday and training camp – all in one!

Now I'm sitting on the boat home from Denmark (unfortunately). I've had a wonderful holiday, relaxed, eaten good food and not least trained my dog and discussed dog training!

Ferie og treningsleir – all in one!

You can train a lot on your own, but it's also important to have good training partners. People who understand what you want to achieve and how you think about reaching your goal.

When I use a helper in training, like here when Cobra is training engagement, it's important to me that we agree on what we're going to do beforehand and also agree on what should happen if it becomes too difficult for her.

Cobra has never trained engagement before, but now that we had Dina available we took the opportunity. This is Cobra's third session and she understands what we want even though she finds it a bit uncomfortable sometimes.

I also choose to have Cobra in her starting position between my legs, which is her starting position in agility. The reason is that she's not yet good enough at her starting position on my left side for me to mix that in yet, and she feels much safer in the position between my legs.

Here it's also obvious that the session became too long for Cobra and she also tells me about it. A 1.5 minute training session might not sound that long, but it had clearly been enough for her in this situation with both learning and distractions at the same time.

On 27 March I'm starting the online course [Heelwork Free.](http://canishundeskole.no/kurs/fri-ved-fot-online/) It's a proper nerd journey lasting 3 months where we work with all the elements within the heelwork free exercise.

Heelwork free is not just one exercise, but appears throughout all the exercises, in the transitions between exercises and on the way in and out of the ring. It's certainly not a requirement that the dog should go in heelwork free between exercises or in and out of the ring, but if you have good heelwork free and your dog seeks out this position on their own and you can just trust that your dog is there the whole way then it's also very pleasant for the handler. It also gives a positive impression to the overall picture.

Both Cobra and Bonus will also participate in the course. Cobra will work on learning heelwork free and Bonus will work on improving her heelwork free and adjusting her position in the starting position a bit further back. Here it's possible to get an even greater insight into the training I do with them.
