Puppies of all breeds and mixes from 9 weeks to approximately 5 months are welcome.
We train exclusively using reward-based methods.
INFO:
- Maximum 6 puppies on the course to ensure good individual follow-up - with us you should feel seen, heard and cared for.
- After each course session, a tailored summary/homework is sent by email so you always have an overview of what we've trained on.
- We work in short sessions with many small breaks, so all the little ones stay engaged throughout. During the breaks we practise being calm around other dogs and people - this is also important to train.
- We use a method called clicker training on all our courses, and at Canis we're really good at clicker training. Clicker training is a reward-based, effective and fun training method 🙂 It's not a requirement to use the clicker itself, but we of course encourage everyone to give it a try.
- The whole family is welcome on the course!
TIME
The course runs over 1 theory session + 6 Thursdays with practical training. The first session is an online theory evening from 19.00-21.00. The remaining 6 Thursday evenings are practical training from 18.00-19.00. Christmas break in weeks 52 and 53, meaning there are 4 course sessions before Christmas and 3 after. The final course session is Thursday 21 January.
LOCATION
The course takes place outdoors in beautiful surroundings at Kringsjå school. We have access to both a school yard, grass areas, covered areas (handy in rainy weather...) and car parks.
PRICE
Full price is 2,950 kr. But we have several "early bird" options, so the earlier you enrol, the cheaper it will be.
INSTRUCTOR
Tori Solberg Halvorsen
WE WILL WORK WITH
Engagement – focus on the handler
Self-control/impulse control using only friendly, positive techniques that teach the puppy that it always pays to "ask" mum or dad first
Recall - how to teach your puppy to come when you call in any situation
Walking nicely on the lead
How to use play as an effective reward for desired behaviour
How to use treats as an effective reward for desired behaviour - not all dogs love food, so here you need to have some good techniques!
Getting the puppy to give up things it has found
Sit, down and stay
Training a stop cue, trained reward-based and without the use of punishment
Being calm around other dogs and people
On the theory evening and during the practical training sessions whilst the puppies have training breaks, we talk about socialisation, environmental training, puppy biting, alone training at home, everyday challenges that arise, and how and why we train reward-based. We also discuss how you can give your puppy good mental training and enrichment.
Do you have questions about the course? Feel free to contact lead instructor Marianne at marianne.mjelva@canis.no
