Puppies of all breeds and mixes from 9 weeks to approximately 5 months are welcome.
We train exclusively using reward-based methods :)
INFO:
- Maximum 6 puppies on the course to ensure good personal and individual support – with us you'll feel seen, heard and cared for.
- After each course session, a tailored summary and homework are sent by email so you always know what we've practised.
- We work in short sessions with many small breaks, so all the little ones can keep up the whole way. During breaks we practise being calm around other dogs and people – this is also important to train.
- We use a method called clicker training on all our courses, and at Canis we're really excellent at clicker training. Clicker training is a reward-based, effective and fun training method. Using the clicker itself is not a requirement, but of course we encourage everyone to give it a try.
- The whole family is welcome on the course!
TIME
The course runs over 7 Monday and Wednesday evenings with practical training. The first two evenings we meet at 17:45–19:00. The remaining 5 evenings at 18:00–19:00. The first course session is 18 November, and the last is Wednesday 9 December.
LOCATION
The course takes place outdoors at Lambertseter videregående skole. Here we have access to both a school yard, grass area, a long covered area (handy in rainy weather...) and car parking.
PRICE
Full price is 2950 kr. But we have several "early bird" options, so the earlier you enrol, the cheaper it will be.
INSTRUCTOR
Mariann Myhre
WE WILL WORK WITH
Contact – focus on the handler
Self-control/impulse control using only enjoyable, positive techniques that teach the puppy that it always pays to "ask" mum or dad first
Recall – how to teach your puppy to come when you call in any situation
Walking nicely on the lead
How to use play as an effective reward for desired behaviour
How to use treats as an effective reward for desired behaviour – not all dogs love food, so here it's about having some good techniques!
Getting the puppy to give up things it has found
Sit, down and stay
Teaching a stop cue, trained using reward-based methods and without punishment
Being calm around other dogs and people
This course has no theory session, but during the practical training whilst the puppies have breaks we talk about socialisation, environmental training, puppy biting, alone training, challenges that arise in everyday life, and how and why we train using reward-based methods. We also talk about how you can give your puppy good mental enrichment and stimulation.
Do you have questions about the course before you enrol? Feel free to contact the lead instructor Marianne at marianne.mjelva@canis.no
