The transition from puppy to adolescent dog brings lots of joy, but can also present many new challenges!
During this period, sexual maturity begins and your puppy is suddenly becoming much more interested in exciting "scent spots" and other dogs than in you. During this time, it can be difficult to maintain motivation to train on the basic exercises that you felt you had mastered in the puppy class.
The aim of this course is to give you inspiration and motivation for your continued training with your dog. Over six weeks, we focus fully on providing you as an owner with knowledge to handle the adolescent dog period. In addition, your dog gets environmental training where the other course participants can be viewed as "distractions" in the training situation.
Throughout the course we continue working with the fundamental exercises; including recall, calmness, loose-lead walking, engagement, sit and stay, and down and stay. If anyone wishes to focus more towards obedience exercises, there is also the opportunity to do so.
On our courses we use only reward-based training methods, which are based on current research in dog training. In addition to training new skills, we include theory during each course evening. The theory is held indoors/under cover with the opportunity for the dogs to practise calmness on a mat. You will also receive a summary of what we have worked on and homework, which will be reviewed at the next course evening.
The course is aimed at dogs from approximately 5-6 months and upwards. Both of you who have attended courses before and those who haven't attended previous courses are welcome to participate! In the training we base ourselves on your dog's level. This means that the exercises are tailored to the individual dog and handler, so even if you haven't attended previous courses, you will still get good value from this course.
The course has few participants, so that each participant receives individual guidance and maximum benefit from the training.
