I am an instructor at Canis Oslo, aged 32, and I am a qualified veterinarian with several years of professional experience. I now have a 3.5-year-old Miniature American Shepherd bitch, Kalani, and together we train competitive obedience, nose work, search and rescue and rally obedience. Through clicker training, I discovered a training method based on behavioural science principles, which provides positive training for both dog and handler. The way Kalani lights up every time we are about to train, and the way she shines when we train, confirms to me every day that this is the right way for me to train dogs. I also have my mascot Wiwi, a 9-year-old Miniature American Shepherd rehomed dog.
As a dog owner, veterinarian and dog instructor, I am very focused on how the dog's and handler's behaviour and mindset affect each other, for better and worse, and I am committed to the importance of training the dog both mentally and physically. The interaction between handler and dog is a very important factor that affects everything, both in daily life and in dog training. If something is not working for the dog or handler, it is important to me to work together with the dog owner to figure out what adjustments we can make to make things better for everyone, whether that be adjustments in training or something related to the dog's physical condition.
I completed a clicker training course in 2024 and am now undertaking Canis Hundeskole's one-year clicker instructor training in clicker training and behaviour analysis, as well as a clicker focus in competitive obedience. In addition to this, I have completed a number of courses in competitive obedience, nose work, rally obedience, search and rescue and strength training for dogs.
As I myself have a dog who has needed some extra space and support in a training context and in everyday life, I know how important it is for both dog owner and dog to receive appropriate adjustments and for the instructor to have understanding for all the different dogs and people who come on courses. I want to create an inclusive and safe environment on my courses where everyone feels welcome and seen, and experiences success. Welcome to my courses!
